  • GOVERNMENT & CIVIL RIGHTS DEFENSE

    Our lawyers have extensive experience representing the State’s many municipalities, counties, and political subdivisions. We routinely defend public entities that have been sued for civil rights violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 in matters alleging wrongful arrest, illegal search and seizure, excessive force and wrongful death, termination of employment without due process of law, and jail-based violations of liberty and property. In addition, we represent public entities that have been sued under the New Mexico Tort Claims Act, which may encompass claims of premises liability, negligent operation of utilities, medical malpractice, and law enforcement liability.

  • GOVERNMENTAL REPRESENTATION

    The firm has years of experience resolving issues specific to governmental entities, including the following constitutional challenges involving both county and state government, contract disputes, election disputes and ballot access, insurance coverage disputes, municipal employment disputes. The firm’s more prominent governmental clients include Doña Ana, Hidalgo, Luna and Otero counties; the City of Las Cruces; City of Truth or Consequences; City of Sunland Park; the Village of Williamsburg; Town of Hurley; Las Cruces Public Schools; Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley; Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority; Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority; New Mexico Association of Counties and its constituent members; and the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority.
